The trip to the BlogHer conference in New York City was a trip of a lifetime! We got into La Guardia in New York at 8:00 Thursday morning. We were fortunate enough to get our hotel room when we arrived at the Midtown Hilton, although we had never requested early check-in. It was fortunate for us, as check-in was 3:00 p.m. The hotel was bustling and buzzing with conference attendees already. I made some “famous blogger” sightings in the lobby, then we headed up stairs for a much needed nap, after our red eye from San Diego.
I was privileged enough to get a “BlogHership” from BlogHer, which paid for my full conference pass. My volunteer position was holding the microphone for the audience, during the sessions. I went to the mic wranglers meeting and in the afternoon, however, my mind was on the Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia cocktail party I was attending next.
Martha’s headquarters is right across from the Hudson River.
Mr. Bear and I took the subway to Chelsea and waited in the reception area to be let in. I was hoping for a Martha sighting. We were escorted into Martha’s headquarters and into the elevator, then through a long corridor.
Along the walls were thousands of cookbooks in bookcases, craft supplies, and the offices of the editors. The party was supposed to be on the roof of the building, however, due to the heat, it was moved inside.
There were plenty of displays of crafts, projects, products, and yummy, tasty treats.
As I proceeded down the hall, I SAW MARTHA STEWART! She was coming my direction and brushed passed me. I completely froze, my mouth agape, like a codfish. It was so surreal! She said goodbye and waved. I was so star-struck, that I said nothing to her and stood there, camera in hand. Once I composed myself, I starting walking toward her direction, unsure if should approach her. Because she was leaving, I opted not to approach her, but snapped this picture of the back of her head. This is my only proof that I actually had a Martha sighting, nonetheless, it is the only one I got.
At the reception area, I was offered a glass of champagne, that I gladly accepted.
All of these were delicious! They served numerous snacks, sushi samples, buffalo chicken sliders, margarita soaked fruit, and champagne.
I met Darcy Miller of Martha Stewart Weddings. She was very sweet.
This room was were the majority of the party happened. There are rumors that Martha Stewart planned pingpong in this room before I saw her leave. I missed it by this much.
The views from the building were awesome!

This is Monica, from Macaroni Kid (Manhattan East Side). We were BFF’s for the evening.
On the elevator ride back down, Alexis Stewart was in the elevator with a few of the other BlogHer ladies. She cracked a joke about all of our periods being in sync after the event. At the time, I had no idea who she was, but I laughed hysterically. After she got off at the next floor and the doors closed, the other girls asked if I realized who she was. Uh, no, I did not.
I am still reeling from the experiences I had and cannot believe what an incredible opportunity it was. I got a swag bag, complete with goodies from the Martha Stewart collections. What a whirlwind it was!
