Athleta Yoga and Shopping

April 21, 2015 by Laura Lohr 3 Comments

Gift bag and yoga mat from Athleta. Capri running pants and tank top I purchased.

I’ve been running again since the beginning of 2015. It has been a very long time since I’ve had any new athletic wear. What I have is either worn out or it’s uncomfortable because it has become so tight. I’ve been hesitant to buy myself any new workout clothes. I want to wait until I’m thin enough. Which, of course, my logic makes no sense at all! I knew one thing though, my running tights just weren’t going to cut it. Thankfully, I was invited to an event at the La Jolla Westfield UTC Athleta store to do some shopping and take a yoga class. Did you know that Athleta has workout classes in the store? I didn’t either! Athleta yoga and shopping! A perfect Saturday!

While we were still fresh, before the yoga class.

We did an hour long yoga class, right there in the store. It was a lot of fun! It was also challenging enough that my arms are still a little sore from the class. I took a look at their schedule online and realized that I’m not a special snowflake, Athleta stores frequently host exercise classes and running groups. How awesome is that?

They also offering altering services for their customers, which intrigued me, as I’m not a short woman, but my legs are very short in proportion to the rest of me. I’m often fighting to not step on the hem of my full length yoga pants. They also offer the “Give it a workout guarantee,” which guarantees that if after working out in the outfit, it doesn’t work out, you can return it for free! Athleta is part of The Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic stores, which I didn’t realize until Saturday. I love that they offer clothing that performs like sportswear, but is very fashion forward that it could be worn every day. I’ll definitely be back to Athleta, either online or in the store. They have the cutest workout attire. I was so excited on Monday to try my new workout outfit. When I felt good about what I was wearing, I was motivated to workout. Who knew?

Here’s the outfit I chose. What do you think? I just adore it!

The Dailey Method—Fitness Challenge for September

September 6, 2012 by Laura Lohr 2 Comments

This month, I am getting back into shape. I have become so out of shape over the past several months. I need to get back to eating clean. I feel better, I have more energy, and I am more motivated to exercise. Alas, I have not done any of that in a while. Between vacation and other craziness, it has been difficult to get back to a healthy way of life. That is why I was completely excited to start at The Dailey Method. The Dailey Method is an one-hour full body workout combines ballet barre work, core conditioning, stretching, and orthopedic exercises. Let me tell you, while it is not a high impact workout at all, I have got my butt kicked.

Over the past two years, I have struggled with getting back to my fitness level because I cannot perform the same way I could before. I have gained weight. I have lost fitness. I have been injured. This workout is giving me the strengthening, toning, and stretching I need. This program is like nothing I have ever done. Everyone works at their own level. The instructor was very helpful in making sure my form was right. I had not realized how tight my hamstrings, back, hips, legs, and practically every other part of my body has become.

This is only the first week of taking classes, but I am committed to 20 exercise classes in the month of September. That is roughly 5 classes a week. I am taking classes with a few of my blogging friends and the accountability is really helping me out. Tonight, I was so motivated and felt so good, I cannot wait to go back tomorrow!

It you are local and would like to join me this month in this challenge (PLEASE join me! I need some major accountability), there is a New Client Special – $8 For One Week (Local residents only. Available at the studio.)

Tomorrow’s plan:

Take an early class
Eat Clean
Stop making excuses and do it
Spend 30 minutes on the treadmill
Attempt to clean this crazy, dirty house. Le sigh.

I am going to get fit again because I am happier when I am. I am healthier. I miss running—a lot.

Disclaimer: I am reviewing The Dailey Method in the month of September. In exchange for my time and efforts in attending classes and reporting my opinion within this blog, The Dailey Method has provided me with one complimentary month to try their classes and services. Even though I receive these benefits, I always give an opinion that is 100% mine.
