Feeling Good with SD Pharmaceuticals

November 27, 2013 by Laura Lohr 1 Comment

Diindolylmethane, Dendrobium, Green Coffee Bean, Raspberry Ketone, and Garcinia Cambogia by SD Pharmaceuticals
Diindolylmethane, Dendrobium, Green Coffee Bean, Raspberry Ketone, and Garcinia Cambogia by SD Pharmaceuticals

I have had a few health scares over the over the years that have really made me aware of the fact that I am not a spring chicken anymore.  I can’t put my body through the wringer the way I did in my teens and twenties.  I need my 8 hours of beauty sleep.  I need to fuel my body properly.  I need to get exercise.  I need to feed my soul.   I need to balance work and play—getting enough of both in my life.  So when I got an opportunity to review some of the high quality products from SD Pharmaceuticals in a campaign with Fitfluential, I jumped on the chance!

Over time, I have become more and more aware of the decrease in quality of our food sources over time.  One of the ways I have found to keep myself healthy and make sure I am getting all the nutrients, is to use supplements.  I use Vitamin D supplements because when I am in the sun, I am blocking my Vitamin D sources with sunscreen.  I use Omega 3 to keep my heart healthy.  I use Coenzyme Q10 to help my immune system.  I use probiotics to keep my gut flora healthy.  I am no stranger to using alternative medicine.

I was sent five different products from SD Pharmaceuticals: Green Coffee Bean, Raspberry Ketone, Garcinia Cambogia, Dendrobium, and Diindolylmethane.  They encouraged me to pick and choose what supplements best fit my lifestyle.  I was excited to read through the information and to learn about the product benefits.  When I opened up the Raspberry Ketone bottle, it smells so good!  What I really like about these is that they support fat loss, muscle growth and aid in recovery from exercise.  I am always looking for ways to improve my sports performance, whether I am on the road running or swimming laps in the pool.

I immediately noticed an increase in my energy level throughout the day when I began taking the “stack” that I chose.  A stack is a combination of supplements from SD Pharmaceuticals to help reach your goals.  For example, some might have goals for fat loss, others maximum health and wellness, while others might be interested in maximum sports/exercise performance.  The ingredients compliment each other quite well.

I found the supplements easy to take.  There was no taxing my digestive system, like some other supplements sometimes do.  I’ve felt amazing taking them!  If you’re looking for a way to compliment your nutritional regimen, SD Pharm has a plan for everyone.

Here’s to good health!

Sharp Women’s Health Conference 2013

October 24, 2013 by Laura Lohr Leave a Comment

Sharp Women's Health Conference 2013

Last year, I had the pleasure of attending the Sharp Women’s Health Conference with 10 or so local bloggers. We had such a great time at the conference. It was informative. It was relaxing. It was a blast, all the way around. I had a delicious breakfast, had a million laughs, got a check up, got a massage, had my eyebrows done and had a wine tasting. There were plenty of seminars, classes and free goodies, but mostly, it was a chance to relax, be pampered and laugh with a couple hundred other women. The guest speakers were top notch. There were drawings, prizes and great opportunities to learn more about being healthy and living life to the fullest.

The Day I Became a Baywatch Babe #Fitzeefoods #SDMNOFitness

November 29, 2012 by Laura Lohr Leave a Comment

Bootcamp with Jeremy Jackson and Fitzee

Okay, so the title is a little very misleading. I have to admit, nonetheless, I did have a date workout session with one of the stars on Baywatch, Jeremy Jackson (a.k.a. Hobie Buchannon—Hobie is all grown up!). Well, me and ten or so of my blogging friends worked out, that is. Jeremy Jackson kicked our butts with an hour long boot camp class.

Bootcamp with Jeremy Jackson and Fitzee

There were two things I learned at the boot camp class:

1. Jeremy Jackson is very easy on the eyes and is a super nice guy.

2. He has been studying medieval torture because my body ached for three days after.

3. Working out with awesome women and a hot fitness instructor is something I could totally get used.

—Okay, three things I learned.

The boot camp class was a total blast. The fabulous DJ Pickel kept us motivated with an awesome mix of music. There was two pregnant women there that were whooping butt on everyone else. Bad asses, the both of them. I laughed. I huffed. I puffed. I learned how to do a real push-up. I hung out with awesome women. I worked up an appetite.

The event was put together by my friend Angela, one of the co-founders of San Diego Mom’s Night Out. It was great to get together with other moms and get our sweat on. After our butt-kicking, the good people from Fitzee Foods prepared their wholesome and delicious meals and made us fresh juice from the juicer. All of us girls got to chit-chat and enjoy some healthy food and beverage. LOVE LOVE LOVE the mom’s night out!

I had no idea that Fitzee Foods existed before this. They have so many fabulous offerings, including FREE fitness classes and various events on different days. They have professionals to help with your nutritional questions. What I love is that FITzee Foods makes and prepares meals daily from local, organic and all natural products. Right up my alley.

Look Better Naked gave each of us $120 gift card to be used for their fitness and detox/health services. I am having a difficult time deciding what services I want to spend my gift card on. I am leaning toward the detoxification services.

I grabbed a lasagna and the chicken enchiladas to take home to share with Mr. Bear and Allie. They both enjoyed a little of both meals. Delicious!

Facing the Dragon of #AnxietyDisorder

October 22, 2012 by Laura Lohr 15 Comments

I went to visit my doctor today. It has been five years since I visited her for the same symptoms. Today she told me that I am suffering from Moderate Anxiety Disorder. There was never a label attached to it before. Mr. Bear immediately created an acronym of M.A.D. for it, which made me laugh. “I’m MAD as a March hare,” is what I thought.

Great, I am suffering from MADness. I considered these symptoms licked several years back, but with mental health and wellness, I assume there are patterns that we fall in and out of. Evidently, I have fallen back into some patterns. Old habits die hard.

It started again about a year ago. I start preparing my schedule, writing my to-do lists, planning meals or organizing my life or household. All of a sudden, my palms start sweating. My heart rate begins to quicken. My stomach starts turning. My cheeks get flushed. I start to panic. It is really frustrating because something so simple as doing the deep cleaning in the house can set the panic in motion. As I typed that last sentence, I felt the burning shame. How stupid! It is just housework.

For me, however, it isn’t just about the housework. It is about doing EVERYTHING and doing it well ALL THE TIME. It has to be perfect. It is the mounting list of things to do. Is the kiddo’s homework done? Does everyone have clean socks and underwear? What are we having dinner tonight? What will we have tomorrow? Oh shoot! I forgot to respond to that e-mail. Did I turn the gas off on the grill? (Because I forgot to do that once—for two days.) Did the dogs eat? What day is trash day? Did I sign the permission slip? How am I going to fit it all in? There is that appointment on Thursday. Did someone feed the fish?

It is not the end of the world if I do not check every item off my list. I know this. It makes sense to me. I do not understand why it hits me so hard. I do not know why I cannot calm down.

My mind becomes so full of tasks and priorities that I cannot move. If I cannot complete everything with perfection, then is it worth doing it at all? These are all simple tasks, yet sometimes I cannot begin to figure out what to do first and my anxiety takes over. I feel embarrassed about it, which further sends me in a state of panic. There is still such a stigma attached to addressing mental health issues. It takes my breath away thinking about it.

Evidently, I am talking in my sleep at night, attempting to prioritize what needs to be done. Mr. Bear has caught me in the middle of the night saying things like, “Oh! I’ve got to get that done. I’ve got to get my priorities straight,” while I am otherwise, in all appearances, fast asleep. Clearly, I cannot even shut the feelings of anxiety off in my sleep and it is affecting Mr. Bear’s much-needed peaceful sleep.

It began to occur to me a month or two ago that perhaps these feelings are impeding my normal function. I feel paralyzed, fearful and shameful. Often, when these feelings take over, I want to hide and it makes it nearly impossible to accomplish even the simplest of tasks.

Today, I took a step toward fixing these thoughts and feelings of being overwhelmed. I faced the doctor and admitted my issues with courage. In all honesty, the mere thought of the doctor’s appointment sent me into somewhat of a panic. I nearly called to cancel the appointment. The only thing that stopped me was the thought of the $25 late cancellation fee.

Awesome. Saved by my cheapness.

The appointment went well and the doctor referred me to a therapist that can hopefully give me some cognitive therapies that can help get me out of those states of panic, naturally—without medication. In the meantime, my appointment is in three weeks and the doctor prescribed something that I can take when these “episodes” come on. I am feeling fear and anxiety even now, after taking the “something” to calm my nerves, nonetheless, I know it is a step in the right direction.

I know I am going to fine, now that I am not pretending that everything is fine. It took everything inside of me to face the doctor and admit that there is a problem. To admit that, YES, I need help.

Have you ever experienced something similar? What did you do that helped you? Have you tried any homeopathic or non-conventional therapies that have worked for you? I would love to hear your feedback.

Stress Relief, Thy Name is The Dailey Method #TDMChallenge

September 19, 2012 by Laura Lohr Leave a Comment

The past week has been a series of insane schedules, the unexpected, and a little monotony. Mr. Bear has been out of town on business and the little things like, “Here, take this kid somewhere for 20 minutes so I can cook dinner,” or “Can you please take the trash out, pretty please,” have been uttered to no one, but air. I cannot express how much I appreciate all the help Mr. Bear does around here.

Allie broke down the other night over her math homework. There were tears, wailing and gnashing of teeth. That was just from me. The poor kid was beside herself and I felt so helpless. After a chat with the teacher, everything seems to be ironed out. The kid has the best teacher, thankfully. She has been a saint working with me this past week. I still hate homework, but we got through it. Yea!

Today was one of those days where I felt like I could not dig myself from underneath the endless list of things to do. By 5:00 p.m., I had dinner prepped and ready to go The Dailey Method. What I really wanted to do was to plop down on the couch and watch some crap t.v. and relax.

My little cheerleader loves going with me to my classes. The childcare is world’s away from what we had going on at the previous workout facility we were going to. It is clean and bright. Allie has a great time. With some prodding from her, I made the decision to go and I am so glad I did.

I really needed the stress relief today. I was feeling so stressed out and 10 minutes into the workout, I had forgotten all about the chores, the lists of things to do, and everything else hanging heavy on my mind. I left the studio with a smile on my face. All the stress of the day literally melted away. I realized as I was leaving that I need this time more than I realize.

It has been two weeks now since I started with The Dailey Method. I swear, you would not think those little tiny movements would hurt so bad. When I first started, I had to stop halfway through the set because I could not keep my arm, leg, or whatever in the same spot. There are times when I grunt and groan like I am lifting a 100 pound rock, when in reality, all I am doing is lifting my leg on more time, up and up, up and up. Ouch! It is a killer workout!

I am noticing little changes happening, specifically in my core and my arms, but other areas too. My legs are stronger. My back is stronger. My posture is a lot better. My flexibility has always been pretty good, however some of the tightness in my legs, hips, and back I had before I started has gotten a lot better. I am not graceful by any stretch of the imagination, nevertheless I have been giving my all to the ballet and yoga poses. I am getting stronger. I am also getting better at watching myself in the mirror while I am doing the different movements—which, admittedly I despise watching myself.

Reluctantly, I stood on the scale today and saw the scale has moved down four and a half pounds since the start of this challenge started two weeks ago. That is WITH the PMS fluff I am experiencing right now. That is a 2.25 pound per week average and I will totally take it!

The Dailey Method in Rancho Bernardo-Poway is kicking off their one-year anniversary celebration on the 29th of September. There will be free classes offered to the public at: 8:00 am, 9:15 am, 10:30 am 12 pm. There will be a raffle from local businesses as well as other fun goodies to celebrate! Not to mention the kick-off to the 30-day challenge. If you are local, I hope you will consider checking it out!

Disclaimer: I am reviewing The Dailey Method in the month of September. In exchange for my time and efforts in attending classes and reporting my opinion within this blog, The Dailey Method has provided me with one complimentary month to try their classes and services. Even though I receive these benefits, I always give an opinion that is 100% mine.
