Legoland Ninjago Hard Hat Tour

April 6, 2016 by Laura Lohr Leave a Comment

Ninjago, opening May 2016!
Ninjago, opening May 2016!

I was recently invited to a “hard hat tour” at Legoland California before the grand opening of their newest ride, Ninjago. There are some really cool and exciting new things headed to Legoland this spring! The most exciting news? They’ve released the date for the grand opening of Ninjago!

Me Legoland

Ninjago Worksite

The official opening day of Ninjago is May 5, 2016! Woohoo!

Ninjago Press Conference

Ninjago is based on the very popular kids’ cartoon with the same namesake. The ride uses technology not ever used in the United States. It uses the latest technology and is sure to be a ride like anyone has seen before! Riders will train to become Ninjas, using some of the most advanced cutting edge technology by Triotech, called Maestro. Maestro is operated using hand gestures, rather than using a handheld gun to train and then battle like a ninja, while wracking up points throughout the quest.  This 4D experience will give riders the opportunity to throw fireballs, shockwaves, ice, and lightning.

Ninjago Press Conference

In addition to the exciting addition of Ninjago, Legoland has created an entire Ninjago World, complete with its very own Ninja kitchen. I was able to sample some of the tasty choices available in Ninjago World and I can vouch for its deliciousness! The Asian street inspired choices are some very healthy options, even featuring a tofu Bahn Mi for the vegetarian visitor. I tried both the chicken and pork Bahn Mi sandwiches and I have to say, it was true love!

Chicken_Pork_BahnMi

The chicken Bahn Mi sandwich was a spicy sandwich, with just the right amount of ginger and veggies to balance the spice. The pork Bahn Mi sandwich was tender and juicy, and while very flavorful, it was not as spicy as the chicken sandwich. The pork sandwich could be prepared on a Vietnamese baguette roll or a soft pita-sort-of-bread.  It’s definitely a repeat! Although, I’ll be hard pressed to figure out which to choose from!

There are several other additions to Ninjago World, including 22 NEW Lego models, built with over a million Lego bricks. What Legoland creation would be complete without thousands of Legos? There’s so much coming to Ninjago World and I’m so excited to bring my family to the grand opening!

NINJAGO World is included in admission to LEGOLAND California Resort. For more information, log onto www.LEGOLAND.com or call (760) 918-LEGO (5346).

Grand Opening of Whole Foods Del Mar Wednesday February 27th

February 28, 2013 by Laura Lohr Leave a Comment

Whole Foods Store Front

Monday night, the brand new Whole Foods store in Del Mar opened its doors for a media event and private peek for at their latest supermarket. Mr. Bear, Allie and I were lucky enough to get an invitation to this exciting event. There was music, food and drink (wine and beer tasting, yes please!), in addition to a well-orchestrated tour of the store.

Whole Foods Allie

Allie enjoyed the sushi the best. She wasn’t excited about going to the grocery store at first. It didn’t take long for her to change her mind with all the wonderful foods they offered.

And as far as coal cooking goes, an electric smoker ain’t all that much difference from grill to grill. It basically all comes down to three factors: size, ventilation, and ease of operation.

True Food Kitchen Restaurant Review—Truly Delicious

July 1, 2012 by Laura Lohr 2 Comments

San Diego’s Fashion Valley mall has a new restaurant and it promises to WOW!

Thursday, Mr. Bear and I had a VIP reservation to try out True Food Kitchen before their official grand opening. (They open TOMORROW, July 2nd.) I was excited because we were able to have a sit down meal, without the interruptions of a six year old. Those meals are few and far between!

When we arrived, we could smell the fresh herbs and fresh produce the moment we walked to the hostess podium. The atmosphere is light, airy, and inviting. We were greeted by a friendly and helpful staff, then taken to our seats. We were immediately impressed by the spacious dining spaces and the warm environment.

I ordered the Cucumber-Citrus Skinny Margarita, which had so many different refreshing tastes and flavors. Mr. Bear ordered a Berry Cup, which was light, sweet, and tasted a bit like a smoothie.

For a starter, we ordered the Salmon Sashimi and it was so fresh and delicious, it was almost like candy. The presentation of everything was so inviting and appealed to our every sense. The sashimi melted in our mouths. YUMMMY!

For our entrées, I chose the Fish tacos with cotija cheese, tomatilla salsa, sour cream, and pickled onion. The beans were so perfectly prepared. I usually skip the beans when we go out to eat, but these had such a wonderful texture and taste, I am glad I did not skip them! They were so good and filling. The fish was light and flaky. Oh, my goodness! So good! Mr. Bear ordered Organic Tomato and Roasted Kale Pizza. I was a bit surprised with his choice, as he is never a very big fan of kale. This pizza, however, was so darn good! The server explained to us that the kale is first soaked in lemon juice, so it makes the kale a lot less bitter. The crust was just the right crispness and the kale was the right saltiness.

We finished up our meal with the Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp. It was the perfect ending to a delicious meal. The combination of all the flavors was sinful. So, so good! It was served hot, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream piled on top. Mr. Bear and I shared it and I was glad. I would have liked to try everything on their meal, yet I was so full, I could not think of eating anything else.

The best part about the True Food Kitchen is that everything is prepared with optimal health in mind. Their focus is sustainability, simplicity, freshness, and healthy eating. We were told by another server that even their furniture is made with concern for sustainability. The chairs are made our of plastic bottles (I seem to remember something about over a hundred plastic bottles). You can choose from a variety of vegetarian recipes and they cater to those that require gluten-free preparation. The place was wonderful when you love having friends over for drinks or delight in throwing entertaining cocktail parties because of its bar outdoor aura. Thanks to Lavita Outdoor Bar Settings!

It seems crazy when I've run thousands of miles, nonetheless, I doubt my abilities. I do it anyways. I always feel strong and accomplished after I finish.
