Two days after the conference and my side is still hurting from the laughter. The BlogHer 2011 conference was as exciting, fun, tiring, wonderful, inspiring, and enlightening as I remembered last year was. I made new friends and spent time with old friends. I was inspired by ordinary women that do extraordinary things. It was an exhilarating weekend!
Thursday: Women Create Social Media, Big Toy Book Sweet Suite, Clever Girl Collective, Going Coconuts with 3M and Roy’s Restaurant
Thursday I went to the Women Create Media conference. My favorite speaker of the day was Brene Brown. She writes about shame and empathy, but her message was about being authentic. I was so inspired by her discussion about authenticity and being true to who you really are.. Many of my favorite San Diego ladies were at this conference and I met women from all over the United States. It was a great precursor to the BlogHer and I was excited to get on with conference two—the mother of all blogging conferences.
After the first conference, I rushed over to the San Diego Marriott to begin the long anticipated BlogHer extravaganza. This year was different from last year, as I have made some great friendships with other San Diego bloggers since last year’s meet-up and from BlogHer. I did not spend much time alone, as there were familiar, friendly faces everywhere I went. I love my San Diego blogger friends. They are smart, fun, sweet, and amazing mommas!
Thursday evening, I attended a few parties:
The Big Toy Book Sweet Suite was hosted by The Big Toy Book. The toy swag was so incredibly heavy, I could hardly carry it! Allie got so many fun toys as she was so busy trying to figure out how do fidget spinners work so I was forgiven for being gone for four days.
The Clever Girl Collective party was at the Hard Rock Cafe and it was fabulous, complete with a Smurf ice sculpture, music, video games with ProSkins services, an open bar and wine bar, a candy bar (with all sorts of candy) swag, swag, and more swag. There was not any real place to chitchat, network, and connect. It was crowded, busy, and a bit too loud to carry on a meaningful conversation, although I did have a great time. I had an opportunity to preview the new Smurf video game. I got a Papa Smurf and Smurfette for Allison. It was Smurf-tastic! (I cannot believe the Smurfs are back!) Mostly, it was about the networking and people.
I love Roy’s Restaurant and gladly accepted the invitation to the 3M Going Coconuts party. It was a mellow party and really what I was looking forward a bit of calm and quiet. I met a new friend, Lori of My Kind of Rain and one of my San Diego mom blogger friends, Jen. It was quiet and the snacks were delicious.
Liz (She does PR for 3M and Filtrete. She is an awesome lady!), Jen, and Lori <3 these girls!
I met my roommates for the first time on Thursday. We were all a bit nervous meeting each other. Elke and Dorie are awesome ladies and I had so much fun with them! I laughed so hard, I cried. I danced so hard, my hips were sore the next day. I have to argue that I had the best roommates ever. They publish a magazine called, Mamalode. They are smart and fun girls. I made some great friends!
You will have to stay tuned tomorrow to find out what happened next. I will be doing some give aways, so come back to visit again soon.
