Fitness Friday Down 35 Pounds!

FitnessFriday

It’s been a few weeks since my last Fitness Friday post. There’s been a lot that has happened since then. Mr. Bear was in the hospital for a few days, with a Pulmonary Embolism, which scared me half to death. It was a touch and go situation, and he’s on the mend now, but he’s got a lot of healing left to do. It really put our lives and health into perspective! He’s doing much better and he’s got a renewed commitment to improving his health and fitness, which makes me very happy, happy!

I’ve been running a lot lately! I ran 9 miles through the hills in Del Mar one weekend, then the following weekend, I ran another 9 miles. I’m feeling pretty good that 9 miles is a good base of mileage for me. I feel as though I could really complete the La Jolla Half Marathon now if I had to! Although, I’m thrilled I’ve got another month before I have to worry about the half marathon. I had to take the past week off from running because I was having stiffness and pain in my Achilles tendon area. If I’ve learned anything from the years I’ve been running, the lesson is to listen to your body and stop running if it hurts. So, this one time, I listened. I iced, I applied heat, I did gentle stretching, and I stayed off of it.

If I’ve learned anything from the years I’ve been running, the lesson is to listen to your body and stop running if it hurts. So, this one time, I listened. I iced, I applied heat, I did gentle stretching, and I stayed off of it. This weekend, it’s onward and upward! I’ll probably take it easy this weekend. We’ve been doing a lot of hill and speed work lately, which is making me very strong, but I’m concerned it’s also the culprit for my nagging Achilles pain.

The big news is that I’ve lost 35 pounds to date!

I am actually at 37.1 pounds down today! I’m so excited! It has been a little more of a struggle this round at Lindora. I’ve really leaned on the support of the staff at Lindora every time I go in. With the stress of Mr. Bear going into the hospital and my Achilles pain, my exercise has been less intense and hasn’t complimented my weight loss. I’ve been slipping with tracking my food and weighing my food. It’s those little things that really add up. I do feel as though this is a lifestyle change that I can sustain forever. It’s been an amazing gift, this lifestyle change!

Two days ago, I went clothes shopping. I’m down about a size and a half in tops and bottoms. Everything that I used to wear before I lost weight hangs on me. It’s crazy! When I was shopping, I was trying on sizes that I was sure weren’t going to fit. Imagine my surprise when the clothing slid right on, with room! Oh! It’s amazing and I’m feeling so much more confident!

I am looking so forward to see where this weight loss goes! I’m excited to announce a big milestone with my next post. I’m hoping to have lost 40 pounds by next Friday. That’s a mere 3 pounds! I know I can do it! It’s such a great feeling to see all the success happening! This lifestyle change really has been easier than I could have imagined it to be!

Until next time, be happy and healthy!

What goals have you accomplished since the beginning of the year?

Have you stuck to your resolutions?

Fitness Friday Strong

FitnessFriday

It’s been quite a ride the past few months! There have been so many changes to report on this Fitness Friday! I’m holding steady with 30 pounds lost and I’m continuing my running plan. It was a really rough week, but I managed to get through, to the other side! PHEW! I’m so glad this week is over!

I’ve been on “Metabolic Adjustment” at Lindora. Metabolic Adjustment is a way for the body to adjust and to trick it into continuing the weight loss. The goal is to help transition patients that have completed their weight loss to transition to eating, without losing weight, AND, for patients with weight left to lose, it readjusts the metabolism to jump start weight loss at the end of the metabolic adjustment period. I’d say this is the most challenging of my weight loss so far. However, I’ve been learning to embrace the entire process. I know I can trust the process and that they know what they’re doing—but the number on the scale! *&#$%* Ugh. Sometimes. I. can’t. The scale has been bouncing up and down about 2 pounds over the past week. I’m maintaining and that’s what I’m supposed to do. I don’t have to like it though!

Running has been a challenge this week. I’m tired some mornings and do not want to get out of bed at 5:30 a.m. to go pee, let alone get dressed and go running. So, I don’t—Go running that is. I’ve been going at night instead. Every morning, when I get up, I secretly hope my friend doesn’t want to go at 5:30 a.m. The other morning she texted and said she didn’t feel like going because she had a headache. I was so happy! Not that she had a headache, of course, but that I could close my weary eyes for a wee bit longer. To say it has been a struggle is an understatement.

I’ve been stopped a number of times this week from people, to tell me that I’ve lost weight. “You look so good!” “Wow! I can tell you lost weight!” “You look different. Your face…what’s different?” “You look so healthy!” I have to say, my day has been made every time I’ve heard a compliment. I know I’ve got so much more work to do, certainly I’ve got a great start so far.

I’m going to continue another 10 weeks with Lindora and I couldn’t be more excited! I purchased 10 weeks worth of the booster and lipotropic injections to compliment the program. On Tuesday, I start another 10 weeks and my goal is to lose another 30 pounds. I’m so motivated to continue! I cannot wait to see what lies ahead for me!

My goals for this week are to keep up with the running schedule, check in at Lindora five days a week, eat what I’m supposed to, and keep on believing that I’m making great progress! My water intake has been abysmal lately, so I’m going to attempt to increase my water intake this next week. I want to drink at least 90 ounces of water a day. It’s so hard sometimes! I’m going to challenge myself to meeting my water goal every day this week!

What is your goal for this week?  Happy running!

Fitness Friday New Year 2016 Edition

January 8, 2016 by Laura Lohr 2 Comments

FitnessFriday

Fitness&HealthFriday

Welcome to the 2016 Fitness Friday! This has been such an exciting month! We had a busy month, yet it was very exciting! I got sick halfway through December, which put a huge damper on things. I had to fake it when I was feeling awful, however I eventually felt better and had no regrets. We went on vacation over Christmas, which should have made my diet and exercise a challenge. It really didn’t. I’ve been so committed to losing weight and getting healthy, I was able to overcome anything that looked like an obstacle! I just completed the 6th week on Lindora* and things are looking really good!

Here’s my stats, as of Friday—-DRUM ROLL PLEASE….

Total weight lost since my first weigh in: 24.5 pounds!

Total weight lost since starting Lindora: 21.5 pounds!

I cannot believe how great I feel! I’m wearing clothes I haven’t worn in YEARS! It’s a fantastic feeling!

For Christmas, we went to Sedona and Grand Canyon. While we were there, we did some hiking, took lots of walks, and of course, did the Pink Jeep Tour.

We went hiking on the Boynton Canyon Trail and saw amazing panoramic views. We went to the Chapel of the Holy Cross and saw more amazing views :

So, as you can see, Christmas break was no joke for us! We stayed active, exploring Arizona’s majestic landscape! It was so beautiful and such a peaceful way to celebrate our Christmas, as a family. Mr. Bear and I went to Sedona the Christmas before Allie was born. We had such great memories of our trip this was a different experience, to go as a family, rather than a couple, yet no less special the first time or this time. We have so many cherished memories and Allie was old enough to really appreciate it this time.

The Carlsbad Half Marathon is coming soon and I’m really getting nervous! I was sick for two weeks and didn’t run for two weeks. I only have two weeks or training left and I’m second-guessing myself, whether I’m ready for this. I’ve come such a long, long way from where I came from, the beginning of January 2015—when I couldn’t run a full mile without stopping. I’ve dropped more than 10% of my body weight, which makes it so much easier to run. I’m not dragging extra weight when I run. I don’t expect to run very fast—or, even to run the whole half marathon, nevertheless, it’s a start!

My goal is to complete the Triple Crown Half Marathon Series this year. This consists of three of San Diego’s most popular race courses: Carlsbad Half Marathon, La Jolla Half Marathon, and America’s Finest City Half Marathon (AFC). I’ve run the AFC a number of times through the years. In fact, the AFC 5k was my first 5k race I ever did and then I was HOOKED on running races! I know that the more I run, the better shape I’ll be in. I’m really excited about this year!

What did you do to stay healthy during the holidays? What goals do you have for 2016? What are YOU excited about in 2016?

Happy New Year from me to you!

Fitness and Health Friday 11/13/2015

FitnessFriday

Fitness&HealthFriday

Welcome to Fitness and Health Friday! It’s been a while since we’ve had an edition of Fitness and Health Friday, yet I’m happy to report that there has been a lot going on in the fitness and health department around here! I’m so excited to share!

I’m going to run the Carlsbad Half Marathon in January! Yay! I haven’t run a half marathon in a long, long while, however, I’ll be doing it this January! It has been a challenge to get back into shape—slow and steady wins the race! I’ve been “training” since the beginning of 2015, starting with the Couch to 5k program from January 2015-June 2015. That training came to an abrupt stop in June, when we put our house up for sale, Allison got out of school for the summer, and we moved. When she went back to school in September, she joined the running club at her school and we’ve both been running twice a week with the running club. It has been a great way to bond and we’ve both enjoyed it so very much!

My eating habits have been absolutely terrible, I’m sorry to report. It has been so busy with Allie Kat’s swim team, homework, running club, and everything social, that I’ve got out of the good habits of preparing healthy meals. I’ve noticed that the 10 pounds I lost when we went through the move is slowly, but surely creeping back on. Wah. Wah. Wah. I know that my eating habits need to change and that they are the whole key to my health. I’ve made a solid commitment to getting my diet on track, so all the exercise I’m doing can really make a difference.

This leads me to the next piece of the puzzle that has me so very excited! I’ve joined Lindora Weight Loss Program. For the next 10 weeks, I’m going to be working with Lindora to lose weight, learn how to eat right, and hopefully, improve my overall health. I start on Wednesday and I’m counting down the days until I start! I can’t wait to start seeing my body change! Yesterday, I had my consultation, where they took measurements and went over the program basics. I was so disappointed with my measurements, my weight, and my eating habits. I’m over it now, though! I’m excited to see some changes happen and I’m excited to work with the people at Lindora. I have to check in at the clinic once a day, weigh in, and let them know how my program is going. I’ve got a lot of homework to do, like reading the Lean for Life book that is the companion to the program. It all gives me hope and I can’t wait to share my journey with you, Dear Readers!

What is good with you, friends? How is your Fitness and Health Friday? Do you have any good news to share? What have you been doing lately? Any races you’ve completed? I’d love to hear about your journey!

Happy, happy Fitness and Health Friday!

Fitness and Health Friday 4/14/2015

Fitness&HealthFriday

I was invited to yoga and shopping by Athleta.  I was given a pair of compression running socks by Fitness Foundations in exchange for my honest opinion.  All opinions are mine alone.

WOW! How things have changed since I last posted Fitness and Health Friday! I have been doing something that resembles consistency. I’m so very proud and excited!

I finished week four of the Couch to 5k program this week and started on week 5. The  program only calls for running three days a week, but I prefer to run at least 5—so, I have! I have been running 5 days a week and swimming also. This is something amazing and I’m so surprised at how much I am looking forward to going for these nearly daily runs.

Beautiful Trail

There’s a beautiful trail that runs through my city. I’ve started running it in the morning with my loyal companion, my Vizsla Obi. We’ve been taking the trails that run along the river, which is tree-lined and peaceful. We’ve come across a turtle, birds, ducks, squirrels, a gopher, and probably a few others have been too shy to greet us. After our run, we head over to the dog park, where Obi is learning how to be a more independent dog. It’s been a great experience for both of us.

I got these new compression socks to wear while I’m running and I got a chance to try them out yesterday. I really, really love them! I’ll have to share more on this later though.

I finally bought myself a new pair of running shoes with some really cute colors. I hadn’t even realized how much I needed new shoes until I went out for a run in the old ones. Funny, my shoes sort of match my blog.

Saturday, I went to yoga and then went shopping for running clothes. It felt so good to get some cross training. Mr. Bear and I have decided to join a gym again. We haven’t been members of a gym since we bought our treadmill a few years ago. Our local gym, Chuze Fitness is offering a gym membership for both of us for $20 a month! I’ve been thinking about taking some classes throughout the week to cross-train when I’m not running. I would really like to get some yoga in, a few times a week. It’ll be great for Mr. Bear and I to lift weights together, like we used to do so long ago—before we became parents.

Nutrition has been a real struggle for me. I’ve tried to make dinner really count and be healthy, but during the day, it’s really a crap shoot. I’ve been trying to do a better job making good choices, but MAN! It is so difficult! I don’t drink, I don’t smoke. My biggest vice, is eating the wrong foods or too much of the right ones. This next week, I’m going to commit to eating breakfast every day. I bought some Kind bars to have on hand. I want to be sure I have no excuses for making poor choices.

Kind Bar. My breakfast.
Kind Bar. My breakfast.

My weight has stayed the same for the past four weeks. This has made me incredibly frustrated, nevertheless, I’m not going to let it change the exercise I’ve been doing. I know I’m building muscle and the weight will take care of itself. I’m working towards overall better health. That matters to me more than anything.

Did you have any successes this week that made you proud?

What were you passionate about this week?

What are your plans for next week?
