Since 2005, I have been a member of the Blogher community. Through Blogher Blogher, I have “met” some amazing bloggers. Every year, Blogher has a conference, where the network of women (and men, too, I suppose) bloggers can come together and talk about blogging. There have been five conferences in the past and each of the five have sold out. Each year, I have attempted to finagle a way to attend. This year was no different. This year, the BlogHer conference will be held at the New York Hilton in Manhattan.
I spotted an opportunity for a “BlogHership,” in which volunteers would be given complementary, full conference pass. I was hopeful and excited! I hastily completed my application and a few days later e-mailed the coordinator to add more information. It was certainly worth a shot! I imagined myself taking a vacation, doing “mommy stuff,” taking a run through Central Park. I visualized laughing, having fun, meeting blogger “friends” for the first time and meeting new friends as well.
Today, I found out that I was not selected for a BlogHership. Considering there were 300 women that applied and only 40 applicants were chosen, the odds were not favorable for anyone that applied. While disappointed, as this is the 5th year in a row I have been interested and the stars have not aligned properly, I am happy for the lucky devils that received the coveted spots.
Opportunities in humility are good for the soul. (But, I still want to go!)
I bid everyone that was offered the slots at BlogHer 2010 a congratulations! Take lots of pictures! Have lots of fun and be sure to blog all about it! Make sure you get that run through Central Park!
