Yesterday was your 8th week birthday and it is amazing how big you are now!! When we first brought you home, you were so tiny, with no fat on you at all. You have the cutest chubby little cheeks now and I just love to pinch them. We have to hold you with both arms now, because you no longer fit nicely into one arm. Besides, you are such a wiggle worm, we have to hold you tight so you do not get away. You are eating well and love your time with Mommy. We are feeding you breastmilk from a bottle, so Daddy can feed you, but you really prefer that Mommy feeds you. Daddy’s feeling get a little hurt sometimes, but you do love it when Daddy sings to you.
Last weekend was Christmas. Your Nana and Pop came down on Saturday for Christmas Eve, along with Aunt Dee (Denise), Cousin Cameron, Aunt Angie, Cousin Angelica, and Cousin Kassie. Your Cousin Kassie is always so excited to see you. She is two years old right now and she just loves to visit with you. Nana and Pop gave you some really cool toys that make lots of noise and you just love to hear them. Some day, Mommy and Daddy might be a little angry at Nana and Pop for giving you such gifts, but for now, we enjoy your reactions to them so much. Aunt Angie brought you a Christmas ornament that has your name on it and Nana bought THREE!! Aunt Angie got you more toys that make noise as well. Aunt Dee spoiled you rotten and got you clothes, toys, and so much stuff!! There were so many nice gifts given, I will have to find out who gave you what, because EVERYONE was so very generous!! Dear Allison, you are so loved.
On Sunday, an exciting thing happened. You got to meet another Great Grandma. Grandma Cathy and Grandpa Richard came down to see you and Great Grandma Demerest was able to visit with you as well. Grandma Cathy gave you so many pretty outfits. They were all so glad to see you. Grandma Cathy got to hold you for a couple of hours. It made her very happy. She kept telling us what a perfect baby you are, so well behaved, content, and beautiful. It was a very nice visit.
On Monday, Daddy and I took you for your VERY FIRST walk on the beach. You were so content in your jogging stroller (Grandma Cathy bought it for you before you were born). We walked for about 2 hours and for about 4 miles or so. The weather was so beautiful, it was a perfect day for Baby’s first beach experience.
This week you gave Mommy and Daddy two GLORIOUS nights!!! Last night, you slept from 10:30 p.m. until 6:30 a.m. A whopping EIGHT WHOLE HOURS OF SLEEP, IN A ROW. We were all very happy. Two nights ago, you slept for 6 1/2 hours and we could not have been happier. You are getting a better sleep schedule, even though we still have occasional nights where you wake up every hour to eat and tire Mommy and Daddy completely out. We still love you though:-)
You still love your baths very much. You smile so big when we take a cup full of water and gently poor it all over you. You are sleeping right now in your swing. Mommy just gave you a bath and you could not be happier. You love the bouncy seat still. You are becoming more independent now, where you can entertain yourself just looking at all the sights and sounds around you. You love to go for walks and you love the car. Both knock you completely out.
Daddy took you on your first outing together without Mommy. You went to Mimi’s Cafe to get dinner for us. Daddy had to wake you up to put you in your car seat, then wake you up again when you got there. Everyone was saying what a beautiful baby you are and Daddy was so proud of you. Somehow, you made it there and back without a hitch. Daddy felt pretty good about that. He is a good Daddy. You are lucky to have a Daddy that takes such pleasure in taking care of you. When he is here, he does most of the work taking care of you. He enjoys you company. You are our perfect angel.
This weekend (tomorrow), we are going to celebrate New Year’s Eve/Day with Daddy’s friends he met before Mommy and Daddy were married. Jeff and Heather have a little girl that is 3 years old, named Karley. Two weeks after you were born, little Parker was born. We are excited to have a nice evening with them. (Of course, the joke is always there that you and Parker will fall in love some day and be married. We will see how things go)
Before you were born, Grandma Cathy wrote that she “Can’t wait to see this angle from HEAVEN.” Obviously, it was a simple typo, but we thought it was really cute. Sometimes we will say what a-cute angle we have, or we will say, “she is a cute angle.” (If you ever take Geometry, maybe this will make sense to you. Or, you will just realize what a couple of nerds for parents you have.)
You really are such a good baby. We feel so fortunate that you are in our lives. You are relatively easy to soothe and you sleep every time we have a lot of people around. We think you like to hear all the voices and sounds of family and friends. We do not know for sure, but we do know that you are a very happy baby. Your cry has gotten louder over time, although it still is not much of a cry. You fuss a bit first. If we do not give you what you need, you get a bit louder. If we still do not get it, you really let out a wail. Your cry is very sweet, as are your coos and other cute little girl sounds you make. When you get excited, you are kicking your arms and flailing your arms about. You are making such a range of sounds now. We are so proud when we pick you up and you give a soft coo, to let us know you are happy to be in our arms.
It will not be long before you are holding your head up on your own all the time. You are holding it up for longer and longer periods of time. You are able to lift yourself up from a lying down position to a half sitting position all on your own now. My goodness, you are so strong!! I am glad you are such a healthy baby.
Well my dear, dear, sweet baby, we love you so much. It is hard to express in words all the ways you have changed our hearts and lives for the better this past 10 months, but especially this past eight weeks. No matter what happens as you grow up, Allison, know that you came into this world very loved and our love for you grows and grows, as you do each day.
