Fascinated and Equally Repulsed—Anyone Else See This Before?
I know it has been a while. I have been a lazy blogger again. I have an assload of pictures to upload and some serious catching up to do. For now, I wanted to blog a bit about yesterday’s museum visits.
My nieces have been here from Washington for three weeks now. They are going home next weekend, so we went to Los Angeles to do some fun stuff. We planned the California Science Center, Griffith Park and the Griffith Observatory, Olvera Street, Venice Beach, the La Brea Tarpits, and the Natural History Museum. We had full days planned, but everyone was very excited about it.
While my sister and I were planning everything, we saw the Body Worlds exhibit was at the California Science Center. We did not know much about it, but we were both interested in seeing it. My parents had seen it when they were in Copenhagen this summer. Mr. Bear was not interested in seeing it (he said it was gross).
My sister and I went through the exhibit yesterday afternoon and I have not been able to get the images out of my head. I feel more commited to taking good care of myself now, which is awesome. At the same time, the sight of some of the plastinates was rather disturbing. The bodies were posed in some strange ways and some of the cadavers were holding their own organs in their hands. The more I think about it, the more difficult it is for me to process. It is all so strange. I am questioning whether it was necessary for me to see it all. I slept fine last night, but wonder if I will have odd dreams due to the graphic images inside my head.
The rest of the weekend was busy and we had fun. I have lots of pictures to upload. Time for sleep.

I saw the exhibit last year when it was at UTC. I found it fascinating and vowed to take better care of myself. I don’t recall cadavers holding organs, but I do remember being disturbed by some of the diseased organs. It was well worth it for me.
Did they have the guy holding his own skin in one hand? Or the pregnant woman with her fetus exposed? I found it interesting and enlightening, but some of it was a bit too artsy for me. The guy holding his organs was split in thirds and all of his organs were stacked up in his hands (shivers). Some of it was creepy.
I will not be partaking of cigarettes ever again after seeing the diseased lung though! LOL.
