Pre-Travel Insanity
Another trip and I, yet again, am cleaning at 12:00 a.m. There is no end in sight.
I have this compulsion to clean the house to such a degree before we leave, that when we return, I feel invited into our sparkling house. This has gone on for as long as I can remember and no matter how clean the house is, it is never enough.
This particular obsession is not one of Eric’s favorite Laura-isms. In fact, he does not find it the least bit endearing, and completely annoying. Nonetheless, I cannot stop thinking, “What if there was a fire in the neighborhood and they had to come in and rescue the animals? We would not want them to think we are slobs, would we?” The fact that we have a pet sitter coming in to tend to the animals this time makes my desire to have everything in its place is magnified.
Our flight is going out at 7:00 a.m. I need to return the library books and DVD’s before we head out. I need gas. I need to get cash.
On the other hand, I am so excited about this trip because I get to see my best friend Aubrey and her roomate Diana. It is going to be just the four of us girls (Allie, Aubrey, Diana, and I) until Eric comes in on Friday. Allison is going to get her first experience in the snow when we go to Aspen (hopefully). I have never been to Colorado, so this is all going to be new and exciting.
Now, to work on that laundry….

I do the same thing and I travel at least twice a month. Best thing you can do is take everything that is not important to you out of your wallet, send yourself and email reminding your where you put it and then write yourself a list of everything you need to do when you get back.
I also am totally crazed, but I empty and put away my rollaboard within 15 minutes of getting home no matter if I’ve been SD for a day or Greece for five weeks. I hate to see my bag and I want the laundry out, the receipts ready for travel vouchers and all the gack gone from my life.
Have a great trip. I love Colorado this time of year, but remember, it can be 70 today and icy tomorrow, so pack accordingly.
