Running Through Sleepy Hollow
We got some much needed sleep while we were in New York. Eric was busy working and I was busy napping while he was gone.
It was nice to wake up and did not have to rush around. It was a relief to get ready leisurely and get myself ready before getting anyone else ready.
I did get some exercise when we were in New York. Actually, we were in a small town called Tarrytown. The resort we stayed in is the Tarrytown House, which has an incredibly interesting history. There are only 10,000 or so people living in Tarrytown, but I had never seen so many beautiful colonial style estates. In North Tarrytown is the area known by most as Sleepy Hollow. I had an incredible 8 mile run, where I explored most of Sleepy Hollow, including several of the mansions along the Hudson River. I have never seen so many mansions in my life! These are not just large homes, they are gated estates, and probably a couple hundred years old. I ran through Sunnyside (right along the Hudson River), which was Washington Irving’s (author of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle) home, Lyndhurst (also along the Hudson River), and through Irvington, a lovely little town.
It was a good run, chocked full of rolling hills (ouch!) and beautiful scenery each direction I turned. It was a great way to explore the area and get my long run in. I had another great run and was so glad that I have enough of a running base that I ran 8 miles and could have run much further!
I regret not having my camera with me, because I ran through some historic areas that were quite beautiful. The last couple of miles, it began to rain. I had only been out an hour and ten minutes or so. I had planned on going another two miles or so, up to the Rockefeller estate, but I got the impression the rain was not going to let up. That was an accurate assessment. By the time I got back to the resort, I was drenched, but energized. I love running in new places.
