Thank You, Mommy!
Tonight, Mr. Bear watched the Super Bowl, totally uninterrupted by his wife and child. He stayed her with family friends, while my mom and I went shopping at Macy’s. I got to go shopping. He got to watch the Super Bowl. We were both thrilled!
My mom and I went shopping for new cookware, which we were in terrible need of. I love cooking and we are cooking at home more and more, and eating out less and less. As much as I love non-stick cookware, after a couple of years of daily use, the non-stick surface commences to slough off the bottom of the pan. It has bothered me to see our cookware showing the signs of wear. I watched a program a few years back that proclaimed the sloughing of the non-stick surface to be dangerous, such as this article explains and this website suggests. They assert the following:
Decent nonstick frying pans made by companies like T-Fal, Faberware and Revere are widely available in models ranging from $10 to $30. Yet scientific studies, not to mention lawsuits (see story, F4), suggest that there’s another kind of price associated with nonstick: The pans may be bad for you. They can give off potentially harmful fumes at medium to high temperatures, and a chemical crucial to the manufacture of nonstick surfaces — but not found in the finished surfaces — is prevalent in the environment, including most Americans’ blood.
Scary stuff.
Ever since I heard that, I have been drooling over the stainless steel, Calphalon cookware, because spending hundreds of dollars is saving my family’s health! Right? I have resisted buying any yet, but find my fingers gently caressing the edges of the shiny periphery of skillets and saucepans while browsing the home stores, like this pretty set here.
Right there in Macy’s, I saw a beautiful set of stainless steel, Calphalon and my mom had me pick out the set I wanted. I am We are now the proud owners of this delicious set:
Happy! Thank you for such a generous gift! We love you guys so much! I cannot wait to whip up a tasty meal for my family tomorrow, without fear of noxious fumes.
